We may also mention marriage here: this too presents itself as a great missionary opportunity, because today – thank God – many people who do not attend church very much still wish to be married in church. It is an opportunity to bring these young people face to face with the reality of Christian marriage, of sacramental marriage. It seems to me a great responsibility as well. We see it in the annulment processes, and we see it above all in the great problem of the divorced and remarried, who wish to approach Communion and do not understand why it is not possible. Probably they did not understand, at the moment of their «yes» before the Lord, what that «yes» is. It is a covenant with Christ's «yes» to us. It is an entering into the fidelity of Christ, and therefore into the Sacrament that is the Church, and so into the Sacrament of marriage. For this reason I believe that preparation for marriage is an opportunity of the greatest importance, a missionary opportunity, to proclaim anew in the Sacrament of marriage the Sacrament of Christ, in order to understand this fidelity and thus to make the problem of the divorced and remarried understood.
