The first funding decrees were signed this morning for the promotion of restoration works aimed at improving the quality of life and urban public services in the municipalities of the Sicilian Region included in the Pact for the South.
The announcement comes from the regional Councillor for Infrastructure, Giovanni Pistorio.
This is the first 15 million, out of a total of 250, which will be transferred this morning to the island's municipalities so that the tender procedures can begin.
“Keeping a commitment that we, as the regional Government, had made to local administrators and to the operators in the sector, who have been struggling for far too long – Pistorio said – this morning we issued the first funding decrees for the urban regeneration projects within the Pact for the South. This is the very first tranche of works, 15 million out of a total of 250, all of small and medium size, spread across the territory, and they represent an opportunity for development in Sicily, both to regenerate our municipalities and of course to give some breathing space to our firms and to our workers in the building sector”.
The timetable of the Infrastructure Department provides for the transfer to the municipalities of all the resources, 250 million in all, by the first quarter of 2017.
“And the opening of the building sites – Pistorio added – by the end of next year”.
Among the 18 works funded in this first tranche: the restoration of buildings and the creation of a square in the historic centre of the municipality of Campofiorito for about 760 thousand euros, the extraordinary maintenance and safety works on the carabinieri barracks of Montalbano Elicona for about 800 thousand euros, and the restoration of the former Capuchin convent in Sambuca di Sicilia, to be turned into a rehabilitation healthcare facility for people with autism spectrum disorder, for about 800 thousand euros.
